Composite comprises (a) a matrix material, and (b) several microcapsules respectively comprising (i) a shell material consisting of a cell wall and/or a cell membrane, and (ii) at least one active substances included in the shell material, where the active substances include dyestuffs, corrosion inhibitors, adhesion-reducing substances, de-icing reagents, slip agent, lubricants or components for self-healing systems, where the shell material is at least partially covalently bonded to the matrix material. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a fiber composite material, where the matrix material is at least one plastic, preferably polyaryl ether ketone, polyaryl ether sulfone, polypropylene, polyamide or polyester; (2) a coating material for the preparation of a coating, comprising at least one binder and several microcapsules as above; (3) product comprising a substrate and an adhesive on at least one surface portion of the coating substrate; and (4) improving the corrosion resistance of a metal, comprising applying the coating material on the surface of the metal, where the included active ingredients in the shell material are corrosion inhibitors.
