The method (300) involves determining radiation characteristic of a honking signal (310) using an operating force or an operation stroke of a horn actuator device to determine the honking signal. The radiation characteristic of the honking signal is determined from a set of selectable radiation characteristics. A volume, sound and/or frequency of the honking signal are determined as the radiation characteristic. The radiation characteristic of the honking signal is determined using magnitude and/or gradient of the operating force or operation stroke.
