The method involves actuating a source of light (11) of a vehicle (10) with a frequency modulated signal. Light (15) emitted from the source of light and an object (17), which is reflected in an environment of the vehicle are received. A receipt signal is produced in response to the received light. Difference between a frequency of the frequency modulated signal and a frequency of the receipt signal is determined. Velocity information of the object is determined depending on the difference frequency. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determining velocity information of a vehicle (2) a vehicle.
