Radiation source comprises a carrier material, an activatable substance, which is transferable by neutron activation in radioactive isotopes and is embedded in the carrier material without using a chemical compound, where the activatable substance together with the carrier material forms an applicable radiation source. An independent claim is also included for producing a radiation source for brachytherapy, comprising mixing a polymer solution as carrier material and an activatable substance in the form of a suspension in an organic solvent or in the form of a solution in an organic solvent and polymerizing them to an applicable radiation source.
