The method involves utilizing a dead-man- controller for opening-and closing movement of an automatic sliding door system (1). A controlling device is actuated by releasing or pressing a button of a dead-man controller during closing operating of the door system. The door system is processed in an opened position. A teach-in-process is performed with respect to a parameter to be recognized of the door system and/or a calibration of a sensor (9) in opened and closed positions is performed with respect to the sensor while processing the door system in the opened and closed positions. An independent claim is also included for a device for commissioning an automatic sliding door system.
