The device has a signal generator (10) for producing a monitoring signal, a detection device (11) i.e. measuring resistor, for producing a measurement signal, and an evaluating device (12) i.e. microcontroller, for evaluating the measurement signal. A monitoring electric circuit connects the signal generator and the detection device to a power switch (7) in an electrically conducting manner, where the electric circuit is switched to a closed state, if the power switch is closed. A multiplexing device e.g. MOSFET, couples the monitoring signal into the electric circuit. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a switching state of a power switch.
