The lithium-ion battery comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator. The positive electrode and the negative electrode comprise an electrode material, which contains active material used for the first time in an electrochemical cell and a proportion of recycled active material. The active material is selected from a material, which absorbs or emits lithium ions or lithium. The recycled active material differs from the active material in terms of stoichiometry, structure or particle size. The lithium-ion battery comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator. The positive electrode and the negative electrode comprise an electrode material, which contains active material used for the first time in an electrochemical cell and a proportion of recycled active material. The active material absorbs or emits lithium ions or lithium. The recycled active material differs from the active material in terms of stoichiometry, structure or particle size. The recycled active material is present in the form of nanoparticles. A conductivity of the lithium-ion battery with the recycled active material is increased with respect to a similar lithium-ion battery with a corresponding additional proportion of the active material used for first time in the electrochemical cell. The nanoparticles (0.01-5 wt.%) are introduced in the electrode material of the positive electrode and/or the negative electrode. The total amount of nanoparticles and the electrode material are 100 wt.%, and the positive electrode contains nanoparticle (5-30 wt.%) together with the active material. The negative electrode contains nanoparticle (5-45 wt.%) together with the active material. The recycled active material is present in the positive electrode, and has an olivine structure or a spinel structure. An independent claim is included for a process for producing a lithium-ion battery.
