The system has a transmission and reception unit to communicate with passive radio transponders (1-1) which form radio measurement data comprising an antenna radiation pattern condition and backscatter measurements (RSSI). An optical system identifies and determines the position of objects or people. A position determination unit (1-2) determines a probable position of the transponders from the data using a movement model. Correlation testers test the correlation between the positional data of the transponders and the detected objects or people for assigning the transponders. The movement model is realized as particulate filters. The optical system is executed as a laser system or a camera system.
