The sensor device comprises a thermal sensor (2) that is configured for determining the temperature in the wheel housing (5) of a motor car. An evaluation unit (6) determines the probability of occurrence of fire. A surface temperature sensor (1) measures and sends the surface temperature of a fender (4) to the evaluation unit. The evaluation unit transmits the information about probability of fire occurrence to a fire control location over a radio module (11).
