The car has crash boxes (2) joined by two groove-shaped elements (6, 7) and connecting a bumper (1) with a longitudinal beam. An anchoring portion (13) of the crash box is pushed into an open end of the longitudinal beam while a main section (11) of the crash box protrudes over the longitudinal beam. The groove-shaped elements in the main section are connected with each other over edge-side distant flanges (12). The flanges are terminated at a transition from the main section to the anchoring portion. The groove-shaped elements are formed from steel.
