The method involves establishing a data connection (2) e.g. near field communication, from a mobile unit (1) e.g. smart phone, to a payment terminal (4), and providing authentication data to authorize payment from the mobile unit to the payment terminal via the data connection. Another data connection (6) e.g. mobile radio connection, with an authentication element is provided to an authentication data server (5). The authentication element of the latter data connection is transmitted to the mobile unit, and the authentication element is utilized as a part of authentication data e.g. code.
