The extender (1) has a switchable clutch (4) arranged between an internal combustion engine (2) i.e. Wankel engine, and a generator (3). The internal combustion engine and the generator are connected to an electric car-side battery (7). Another switchable clutch (6) is arranged between the generator and a climate compressor (5). The climate compressor is driven with the latter switchable clutch from the electric car-side battery over the generator functioning as an electromotor in an operating mode with sufficient charge state of the electric car-side battery and a non-switchable clutch. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a climate compressor of an air conditioning apparatus of an electric car.
