The windshield wiper is provided with a guided air stream, by which the water is removed from windshield without contact. The air stream is guided to a mobile arm over the windshield. The air stream is discharged as air curtain over a longitudinal slot. The air stream is discharged in slightly oblique manner such that a reaction force acts on the wiper arm and drives the wiper. An air discharge pulse is controlled by controlling the amount of air or the outlet speed based on the local and instantaneous water flow rate.
