The drive units (12a,12b) generate linear movements of rotors (16a,16b), and a fastener (20) for attaching a workpiece and a tool. The drive units are arranged relative to each other such that the movement directions of the rotors are aligned in parallel. The rotor (16a) is firmly connected to a lifting unit (18) having a lifting mechanism. The lifting mechanism is operated by rotor (16b) such that the linear movement of rotor (16b) relative to rotor (16a) is converted into transverse movement perpendicular to movement directions of rotors. An independent claim is included for a method for operating manipulation device.
