The valve-controlled hydraulic machine has cylinder-piston units (4,6) of each provided with a low-pressure valve arrangement (22) provided at a low pressure side and a high-pressure valve arrangement (16) provided at a high pressure side. High-pressure valve arrangement is actively switched and the associated cylinder-piston units are operable in a fragmentary mode in which the valve arrangement is closed during a total stroke from a first dead center to a second dead center and after or before passing through the second dead center.
