The detritus chamber (21) has inlet and outlet areas (2,30) connected with pipe. The water flow within inlet area is reversed through a channel (3). A wall portion (40) and a bent wall section (41) are formed on a side wall. The wall portion is connected with an inlet-lateral surface. An inlet cross-sectional area is led in a specific direction of side wall at which downward water flow roller current is generated. The bent wall section is provided at preset distance from side wall end portions such that an aperture is formed between side wall and bent wall section. An independent claim is included for a method for operating detritus chamber.
