The method involves preparing two cover parts (34, 36) of a cover element (32), where the cover parts are intended to be connected together for incorporating an exhaust pipe (20) and an insulating material (28) surrounding an outside circumference of the cover element. The cover parts are connected together by a one-piece component to form the cover element, where the one-piece component includes a hollow cross-section closed in a circumferential direction of the one-piece component, and the one-piece component is manufactured by an extrusion method.
