The system has a pump (4) comprising an electromotive drive device (42) i.e. asynchronous engine, and placing a pressure unit to a pressure unit reservoir (2) under a given pressure (p1) at disposal. The pump is provided parallel to a rotation speed-variable pump (6), which stands in flow connection with the pressure unit reservoir over a pressure unit spacer (16), where the pressure unit reservoir maintains the pressure unit at another pressure (p2). The rotation speed-variable pump outputs under varying pressures. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a hydraulic consumer.
