Method for emergency operation of electromechanical vehicle steering system during occurrence of fault, involves controlling electric motor such that rotational movement of rotor of electric motor is stopped in angular pitch region
The method involves discontinuously generating a braking torque for an electric motor i.e. stepper motor, of an electromechanical vehicle steering system. A rotation angle region (3) of the electric motor is divided into angular pitch regions (1, 2). The braking torque is produced only in one of the angular pitch regions (1). The electric motor is controlled such that a rotational movement of a rotor of the motor is stopped in the other angular pitch regions (2). The angular pitch regions are alternatingly distributed adjacent to each other in the rotation angle region of the electric motor. An independent claim is also included for an electromechanical vehicle steering system.
