The method involves computing a digital signature by a firmware module (i) for binary data (g) of an image captured by a digital camera (a), based on a private cryptographic key (j) of the digital camera. The computed signature is stored in a comment field (f) of an image file (d). A public cryptographic key (k) of the camera is placed as a permanent data file (l) for subsequent inspection purposes by the camera such that the data file is created again with correct contents by the firmware module immediately after the data file is deleted or modified by a third party.
