The system has a sensor controller (3) for acquisition of control events, and elongated distance sensors extending along a sensor extension to detect a distance (a) to a user (B). The controller actuates the assigned distance sensors and/or evaluates sensor signals. A vehicle component (8) i.e. trailer coupling, is arranged in or along the sensor extension. The distance sensors comprise dummy portions in a region of the vehicle component such that the distance sensors comprise no sensitivity or a smaller sensitivity compared to a region of each distance sensor adjacent to the dummy portions.
