The device has a hinge retainer (8) with a retainer aperture (10) that runs in a vehicle transverse direction (Y). A hinge support (11) is additionally arranged at the hinge retainer and comprises mounting plate apertures and made from a deep-drawn metal sheet. A retainer bolt (14) for a pivotal arm is arranged in the hinge support. Axially clampable transit bolts (13) i.e. screws, pass through the retainer- and mounting plate apertures. Each transit bolt comprises an outer diameter that is smaller than an internal diameter of the mounting plate aperture. An independent claim is also included for a method for installing a hinge device of a motor vehicle door.
