The method involves determining a navigation route to be traveled from two possible navigation routes (N1,N2), and detecting a point of passage (S1 to S5) for the navigation route to be traveled between a starting point (13) and a navigation target (14). The navigation route to be traveled is calculated in response to the point of passage. The data stored in a vehicle (12) is automatically evaluated, and point of passage is automatically determined in response to the evaluation. The point of passage is determined during the journey to be traveled along the navigation route. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for determining a navigation route to be traveled of a vehicle from a starting point to a navigation target.
