The test comprises a unit for polycondensation of lactic acid to form a pre-polymer, a unit for depolymerization to form dilactide, and a unit for carrying out analytical methods for determining the dilactide yield (greater than 93%) and/or the racemization (less than 93%), where the lactic acid fulfills the test and is suitable for polymerization. An independent claim is included for a process for separating and purifying polymerization-like lactic acid from fermentation broths.
