The method involves detecting an environmental parameter by a detection device and adjusting the amount of the washing fluid applied on the windowpane in dependence on the environmental parameter. The amount of the washing fluid applied on the windowpane during the upward movement of a wiper blade differs from the amount of the washing fluid applied on the windowpane during the downward movement of the wiper blade during a washing cycle (30,32,34,36). The environmental parameter is a speed of the vehicle or a contamination level of the windowpane. An independent claim is included for a device for applying a washing fluid on a windowpane of a vehicle.
