The method involves determining an oxygen concentration of a mass flow of exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine (1) by using a lambda probe (20), which is arranged in an outlet duct (13) for the mass flow of the exhaust gas of the engine. The oxygen concentration of a mass flow of combustion air supplied to the engine is detected by using another lambda probe (19) i.e. wideband lambda probe, which is provided in an inlet duct (12) for the mass flow of the combustion air. A combustion air mass flow rate is determined as a function of the detected oxygen concentration. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining mass flow of combustion air supplied to an internal combustion engine.
