The method involves inserting a tool (4) assembled with a cutting head (7) into a brake caliper (1) through an insertion opening (3) for a disk brake. The tool is moved with the cutting head in the direction of a bearing point (2) and the rotating cutting head is brought into engagement with the bearing point in a machining manner. A turning chisel (8) of the cutting head is swiveled in a starting and movement direction or a position aligned from the insertion opening for start-up and movement of the tool. The tool corresponding to the breadth of the bearing point is moved for machining. An independent claim is included for a tool for machining rear-sided bearing points in a brake caliper of a disk brake of a vehicle.
