The combination has a carbon dioxide sensor for detecting concentration of carbon dioxide in breathing air in the proximity of the head of an infant. An acoustic signal transmitter triggers an acoustic signal when the concentration of carbon dioxide exceeds a preset value. The sensor is fixed at the head of the infant or at a bed frame, or incorporated in a pillow or mattress.
