The indicator has a sensing transformer (100) with an elongate measuring ferromagnetic core (106) and an elongated coil (108). Another split coil (110) is wound in an end region of the core. A drive magnet (104) is movable along a movement path. An electronic module (102) outputs a measuring signal based on position of the magnet. A permanent magnetic linear contactless displacement sensor comprises magnetic field enhancement units e.g. auxiliary permanent magnet, that generate a magnetic field that is superimposed on the magnetic field of magnet.
