The system has an electric power source (10) comprising a terminal (11) that exhibits a high electric potential compared with another terminal (12) in a voltage providing state of the power source. An electrically isolated converter (13) converts voltage (19) of the power source in an operating mode. The electrically isolated converter comprises a converter output (14) and a converter input (16) in the voltage providing state of the power source. The converter output is electrically connected with one of the terminals of the power source. The power source is designed as a fuel cell unit or as a high volt battery unit. The converter is designed as a direct current static converter. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a high volt system of a motor car.
