The method involves limiting the battery charging voltage (UBatt1) at a first charging process by first battery limit voltage (UG1), such that the battery charging voltage falls below the allowable charging voltage of the each of the individual cells (1-3) safely. The voltage waveform of the cells is determined during the first charging process.
