The method involves closing a precharge relay (4) when switching contactors (3, 3') are closed, where a battery system (1) is electrically connected with an electrical load (6) by using two electric conductor (2, 2'). One of the contactors is connected in series arrangement with the precharge relay, where a series arrangement of the relay and a precharge resistor (5) is provided in parallel to the contactor. The other contactor and/or the relay are opened. The closing and/or opening of the relay, and the contactors are controlled and/or performed by a control device. The electric conductor is designed as a metallic wire. An independent claim is also included for a battery system.
