The winding machine has a rotatable winding turret (2) that is rotated such that a winding spindle (3.1) is projected from an operational position into an alternate position. A feed device (14) is connected with the winding spindle held in the alternate position. A fixing agent formed as a finite synthetic foil strip (15) is provided for the fixation of a thread end at a solid coil (11). The finite synthetic foil strip is wound at a final winding portion of the solid coil along with a thread (12). An independent claim is included for a method for fixing thread end into solid coil.
