The drive for higher speeds, wider strip and larger coils on today's foil mills is pushing the boundaries of existing design solutions, particularly with respect to speed and operating efficiency. The challenge for new high performance foil rolling mills, therefore, is to address these issues and extend the mill performance envelope. VAI's VAntage process control system is setting a standard for both foil flatness and thickness performance. Its success has been such that it has largely removed the former limitations to speed and productivity that were attributable to material quality and consequently the emphasis has moved to the mechanical components; items such as the ironing roll, strip drying systems and foil feeding systems. Proven designs developed by VAI, based on a depth of in-house foil rolling process and design know-how, are now available for these key components from the VAIFoil~R design solutions portfolio.
