The machine i.e. industrial truck (1), has a combustion-engined electrical drive comprising a combustion engine (8) that drives a generator (10). A converter (12) supplies electrical power of the generator into an intermediate circuit (13). A drive motor (16) for driving the machine is connected with the intermediate circuit. The generator is designed as an independently excited electric machine (9) i.e. asynchronous alternator (11), and the converter takes the electrical power from an electrical energy storage unit (20) i.e. lithium ion battery, for magnetization of the electric machine. The independently excited electric machine is operated as a motor. An independent claim is also included for a method for generator control of a mobile working machine.
