The method involves heating a heat transfer medium i.e. wood pellet, by a heat generator (2) to inlet temperature. The medium flow is automatically controlled by a room temperature controller. Flow of a heat carrier in a generator circuit is determined and utilized as an input variable. Control of a heating system (1) is demand-guided by a determined flow rate of the heat carrier that is provided in the generator circuit as the input variable by which a control variable of scheme preferably power of the generator is affected, where the generator controls delivered heating power.
