The method involves transporting plastic preforms (10) by a transportation unit (2) along a predetermined transportation path. The plastic preforms are heated by a heating unit i.e. infrared oven, during transportation. A part of the plastic preforms is removed from the heating unit when occurrence of an error condition. A group (G1) is selected at the plastic preforms. Another group (G2) is executed at the plastic preforms for purposes of repeated heating. The plastic preforms are assigned to the former group or the latter group depending on temperature of the plastic preforms. An independent claim is also included for a device for heating plastic preforms.
