The method involves transmitting the data from a transmitting device to a receiving device, where the data is encoded by using an encoder connected with the transmitting device and is decoded by a decoder connected with the receiving device. The parity-check matrix of an irregular repeat-accumulate (IRA) code is used for coding and decoding. The edges connect the nodes of a Hamiltonian graph in a circular manner are used to generate the equality portion of the parity-check matrix. The inner edges are used to generate the information portion of the parity-check matrix. An independent claim is included for a method for generating a parity-check matrix of an irregular repeat-accumulate code.
