The coolant pump (5) has a pump housing (8), in which a split pump shaft (10) with an associated impeller (17) is rotatably mounted. The impeller conveys coolant flow through a suction port into a spiral channel of the coolant pump. A fluid coupling (20) with a rotor (22) and a stator (24) is arranged between the impeller and a pulley (18). The fluid coupling is connected with shaft sections (14,14') of the split pump shaft. A driving speed of the coolant pump is varied by a variable filling fluid of a clutch housing (25) of fluid coupling.
