The method involves storing available driver assistance information (I1-I8) in an electronic control device (2). Desired driver assistance information is manually adjusted by a driver using a selection module. Output modes and/or a number of driver assistance information variably adjusted. The driver assistance information is categorized according to importance of the information, where the categories (K1-K4) are manually adjusted. A basic adjustment (G) is automatically specified before the manual adjustment of the information. The selection module is provided in form a display with a touch screen (3) or a display part (3a) in connection with a control element (3b). The output modes are selected from an acoustic mode (A), an optical mode (O) and a haptic mode (H). The driver assistance systems are selected from a lane departure warning system, emergency braking system, rear-end collision prevention system, avoidance assistant system, narrow passage system and adaptive cruise control system.
