The fuel injector (10) has a high-pressure chamber (25) divided two subspaces (36,37) by a separating element (35). The separating element is movably arranged with a nozzle needle (15) in the direction of a longitudinal axis (16). The former subspace of the high-pressure chamber facing away from a nozzle opening (12) is provided with a connection with a storage volume (23). The latter subspace of the pressure chamber facing towards the nozzle opening is hydraulically separated from storage volume by the action of a needle guide portion (21) of the nozzle needle.
