The valve (1) comprises a valve piston (4), which is moved against a valve spring biasing force. The valve spring biasing force is provided by a fluid spring (6), whose state changes between liquid and gas during the operation of the valve. The fluid spring is arranged in a fluid spring chamber, which is limited by one end of the valve piston. The fluid spring chamber is closed pressure-tight. The spring fluid chamber stands in connection with a pressure relief chamber through a pressure relief valve. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a valve.
