The device has a sensor (10) i.e. charge-coupled device-planar sensor, with three sensing elements (18) that are arranged at distance from work piece. The sensor is fixed or detectably fixed to a hand tool machine, and a computing unit (24) is coupled with the sensor and supplies a visual and/or acoustic signal for a user in dependent on sensor values (22). The computing unit supplies information about an angle of inclination of the hand tool machine opposite to a work piece surface (14) in dependent on the sensor values. The sensing elements are arranged at distance from each other. An independent claim is also included for a method for visual and/or acoustic displaying an alignment of a hand tool machine opposite to a work piece.
