The machine has a measuring unit (32) provided for detecting a work progress parameter and for transmitting a measuring signal (34), during machining of a work piece (12). The work progress parameter is implemented as a geometrical parameter of the measuring signal, where the geometrical parameter of the measuring signal is implemented as an alignment parameter or a displacement parameter. The measuring unit has a receiving surface to receive the measuring signal, where the work progress parameter is adjusted relative to the receiving surface.
