Aluminum-silicon die casting alloy comprises 5-12 mass% silicon, 0.5-3 mass% zinc, 0.1-0.7 mass% magnesium, 0.2-0.8 mass% manganese, 0.05-0.3 mass% zirconium, individually greater than 0.05 mass% and a total of greater than 0.4 mass% contaminants, and the balance amount of aluminum. An independent claim is also included for preparing a die casting component, preferably thin-walled bodywork or a chassis cast component, comprising casting a cast component with evacuated permanent molds made of the above mentioned die casting alloy, and subjecting the cast component to (a) T5 heat treatment, which includes a hot exposure of the cast component at 220[deg] C for 2 hours, (b) T6 heat treatment, which includes a solution heat treatment at 490[deg] C for 1 hour, quenching in air, and hot exposure at 210[deg] C for 3 hours, or (c) T7 heat treatment, which includes a solution heat treatment at 460[deg] C for 1.5 hours, quenching in air, and hot exposure at 230[deg] C for 2.5 hours.
