The method involves deriving information related to idle parking positions and sending the derived information to a central parking guidance (4). Appropriate information including a list of prioritized selection of idle parking positions in regions (1, 3) are transmitted to a retrieving unit at the central parking guidance. The transmitted idle parking positions are prioritized based on probability data of respective idle parking positions for a predetermined time or determined average time, where the probability data are stored in a database of the central parking guidance. An independent claim is also included for a system for finding idle parking positions in a region.
