The generator arrangement (1) has a generator controller (10) for controlling the current through a rotor winding (22) of an electric machine so that the output voltage corresponds to a target voltage. The generator controller is provided with a direct current (DC) control input unit. A control circuit within the generator controller housing is set to control the current through the rotor winding of electric machine based on supplied direct voltage. A voltage reduction circuit is set to reduce the output voltage. An independent claim is included for a motor car onboard network.
