The arrangement (1) has an application-specific integrated circuit (5) comprising a free wheel unit (9) for formation of a free wheeling circuit (15). Another application-specific integrated circuit (6) has a free wheel unit (12) for formation of another free wheeling circuit (16). A control unit (17) controls the former and the latter application-specific integrated circuits such that free wheeling of the current via an inductor (2) is enabled via the former and latter wheeling circuits in dependent upon an onboard network voltage (UA). The free wheel units are designed as free wheel diodes. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling the circuit arrangement for reduction of current via the inductor of the motor vehicle generator.
