The invention relates to a cosmetic method for treating and/or preventing oily skin or skin tending to be oily and/or the aesthetic skin defects associated therewith. The method comprises the topical application of a composition to the skin, said composition containing at least one compound of formula (I) in a cosmetically acceptable medium, wherein: R is a hydrogen atom, or a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C6 hydrocarbon radical; R' is a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C18 hydrocarbon radical which is optionally substituted by a hydroxyl group; and C-X is C=O or CH-OH.
