The method involves measuring an electric quantity at a terminal of a control module (13). A state of charge (SOC) and/or a state of health (SOH) of a battery (10) is estimated from electrical magnitude. The voltage across the control module is measured during a charge phase and/or discharge phase of the battery to deduce the SOC and/or SOH of the battery. The SOC of the battery is indicated when the measurement of the control module indicates proximity of the full load and/or unloading of the control module of the battery. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a battery (2) a battery management system controller.
